Spring Break!! Spring Break!! Spring Break!!!
Yes, Spring Break is definitely a blessing from the Lord and I know you are so excited for that week to come…(Can I get an Amen?!)… but while it is a pleasant break from the everyday anxieties and stress of school…it actually can bring about a whole new set of anxieties, worries and fears.
I’m talking about the internal battle in the mind that girls face everywhere when it comes to the wonderful article of clothing called…a Swimsuit.
Are you prepared for the flood of insecurities that start to happen as you pack your suitcase for spring break?!
I know you know what I’m talking about…the anxiety that comes with wearing a swimsuit. The anxiety that comes from even having to lay out on the beach and be comfortable in a swimsuit. The cultural pressure to have a Spring Break Bod all of a sudden becomes of utmost importance.
All of a sudden your excitement for spring break just shifted to straight panic because you haven’t thought about putting your body in a swimsuit and laying by a beach in months and truthfully, that’s kinda terrifying.
I mean, I’m sure you would be fine in a swimsuit if no one else was around- but, then you think of all the other girls going on the trip and that only triggers more insecurities because you then start comparing your spring break bod with their spring break bod.
The comparison game is so strong going into spring break.
Our culture is saturated with photos and filters- and now here you go on Spring Break and the thought of you being captured on someone else’s snap story in your swimsuit brings more anxiety than you thought possible and has you even contemplating whether or not you should go!?
Why are we not confident and comfortable in our bodies? Whose approval are we seeking? What lie are we believing that is keeping us from truly living freely and enjoying the break from school and the wonderful sun?!
Why are we wasting energy on comparing our body to somebody else’s?!
Why?! Because apparently it really matters to us. We care what people are going to think about us.
What we think about, we care about
and what we care about we chase.
So why does that Spring Break Bod matter so much?! We can’t even think about having fun on spring break at the beach because we are to consumed in thinking and believing lies connected to what we think about our bodies.
Why are we being held back by fear and worrying about what you are going to look like in a swimsuit?!
Because we believe it’s connected to our identity.
Our worth. Our value. It’s connected to our belief about our own significance.
We believe that the image of a “Spring Break Bod” matters because we want to be accepted by others. We are seeking earthly approval. It is a deeper desire to want to fit in. We want the boys to notice us. We want the “prettier” girls to compliment us. We want the most instagram likes. We want the comments on our photos. We want to be told we are beautiful. We want to be told we are #springbreakbodGOALS. We want all those things because we believe the lie that if we had those things everything would be better.
Hey you sweet college girl! You are not the only one having this internal battle!
But I want to let you know something…even if all those things happened and you had the perfect Spring Break Bod… you would still be searching for more.
See it’s not until we are fully completely confident in the skin God gave us that we can be freed from the bondage of the comparison game and the ever hated internal battle that we have with our body in a swimsuit.
There is a freedom that comes when we believe we are who God says we are!
“You are altogether beautiful, my love, there is no flaw in you.”
Song of Solomon 4:7
I believe that maybe this year on Spring Break things could be a little different… not just for you, but for your whole group of girlfriends going on spring break together!
What if you got to enjoy Spring Break because you were fully and completely confident in your own skin!?
You would be able to enjoy Spring Break because you wouldn’t even be giving any energy towards worrying about what you looked like.
Yes…agreed…easier said than done. But I believe it is possible!
What if you believed that you have HIS approval and that is enough!
When we shift our focus on what God sees in us, I don’t know about you, but I just breathe a sigh of relief because living a life that always seeks the approval of others is exhausting.
When we FOCUS ON HIM and SEEK HIS APPROVAL that changes everything.
For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Now you go WALK IN TRUTH CONFIDENTLY down the beach in your swimsuit because you are a woman of dignity and strength and no one has the power to make you feel a certain way.
Your worth is not determined by the opinions of others.
Your worth is found in Jesus Christ and who He says you are.
It’s time to let go of the swimsuit fears and confidently believe that you are RADIANT. No need to be ashamed of your Spring Break Bod. Confidently Be You!
“I sought the Lord, He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are Radiant and their faces are never covered with shame.”
My prayer for you is that you will embrace the true FREEDOM Christ has for you. Embrace spring break and actually have FUN because you won’t be worried about what you look like.
Hey Girl! Did you know that when you are BOLDLY and FEARLESSLY you in the body God gave you that is when you are #SpringBreakBodGoals?!?
So quit your stressin’ and go have some SB 2017 Fun!
The King is enthralled with your beauty; honor HIM for He is the Lord.
